How do you clean a fursuit, anyways?
Fursuits are an expensive and one of a kind investment, so you'll want to keep them looking as good as possible for as long as you can. Many can cost more than two thousand dollars, and fur colors aren't always able to be matched up later if you commission updated parts.
It is easier to keep your fursuit parts in good condition rather than commissioning new pieces (paws, tails, etc.) when they wear down. It also does not take too much effort, so it will save you money in the long run!
Besides saving you money, keeping it in better condition, and extending its life, having a clean and well groomed fursuit is just healthier for both the wearer and for people interacting with the costume. Without proper maintenance, bacteria, and in severe cases mold, can grow in the fursuit. This is not something you want in close contact with your skin, and especially not your face. This is not only a hazard to you, but also to every person you come in contact with. Besides, most people don't enjoy hugging or talking to a dirty, smelly, or matted fursuiter.
The #1 problem I have encountered with people not taking care of their fursuits is simply that they do not know how, and are afraid to experiment. This is quite reasonable, as it is scary to submerge your $2,000+ costume in water, but the purpose of this website is to help and educate people, so they can feel confident that their fursuit will look and smell brand new after a washing without falling apart.
